Appropriate eye and personal protective equipment must be worn. Machines have moving parts that may cause entanglement. All loose clothing, jewelry and long hair must be secured.

Bandsaw Safety
1. Any and all adjustments should be done before beginning work. Power source must be disconnected/locked out prior to making any adjustments.
2. Wheel guard doors must be closed, and the blade properly adjusted, before turning on the machine.
3. Adjust the upper guide assembly so it is a 1/4” inch above the thickest part of the material.
4. Ensure that the exhaust system is on.
5. Allow the saw to reach full speed before feeding the material.
6. The stock must be held flat on the table.
7. Feed the stock only as fast as the teeth can easily remove the wood.
8. Fingers should be on either side of the blade; never directly inline with the blade. Maintain a 2 inch margin of safety.
9. Plan saw cuts to avoid backing out of curves whenever possible. Relief cuts are needed for sharp curves.
10. Make turns carefully and do not cut radii so small that the blade is twisted.
(i.e. a ¼” blade should not cut a circle smaller than the radius of a nickel)
11. Stop the machine before backing out of a long, curved cut.
12. Round stock should not be cut unless mounted securely in a jig (V block) or hand screw.
13. Use a push stick whenever possible. All loose material surrounding the blade should be removed with a push stick, never by hand.
14. If you hear a clicking noise, turn off the machine at once. This indicates a crack in the blade. If the blade breaks, shut off the power and move away from the machine until both wheels stop.
15. Turn off and lock the machine as soon as you have finished your work. If the machine has a break, apply it smoothly. Do not leave or clean the machine until it has stopped running.
16. If for any reason you are not sure, or if you feel that the operation you are about to perform is unsafe, ask your teacher for assistance.
